John Moronen has spent more time with "A" listers than most agents. As a veteran chauffeur for the past 23 years, he has ferried the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Anthony Hopkins, Harrison Ford, Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, Kathy Bates, Melanie Griffith, Charles Sheen and Michael Jackson.

And that's about all Moronen will say about his precious cargo. He's earned a reputation as the most requested driver at Beverly Hills boutique firm KLS Limousine by keeping his mouth shut.

While he won't reveal whom he'll be driving to this year's Academy Awards, he will disclose the skills that have helped him navigate "the most stressful event of them all."

Of paramount importance is a Thomas Guide-like knowledge of L.A.'s freeways and streets that helps counter the client's inevitable late arrival.

"The stars are always late," Moronen says. "I've never worked an awards show where they're on time."

He arrives a half-hour early, avoids massive traffic jams and limo pileups by slipping down side streets and gets clients to the show on time by making emergency maneuvers when necessary.

"Once, a presenter who was giving a big speech was 45 minutes late. I nearly ran over a cop's foot pulling an emergency U-turn, but we made it," he says.
